My name is Dana Dalton. I am a transplant Nebraskan by way of California. I am originally from a Southern California coastal town called Huntington Beach. I grew up near the ocean with much different experiences than children in the midwest, so I LOVE to share those experiences with my students. I am a storyteller and weave that into my teaching whenever possible. Although I am from a large city, I enjoy the small town life and wonderful sense of community here in Waverly. This is the reason I chose to reside in Waverly and raise my family here. I met and married a nice Waverly boy nearly 23 years ago. :)
I came to Nebraska in 1984 to attend college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where I swam for a few years. I've been here ever since! I received my BS in Education in 1989. Upon graduation, I took my first teaching position with District OR1 teaching second grade at Bennet Elementary. Before finding my way to District 145, I taught five years at Syracuse Elementary. In 1999, I took a new teaching position with District 145. That first year at Hamlow, I taught fifth grade before my move to fourth grade where I taught for eleven years. For the 2011-2012 school year, I returned to fifth grade. I was given the opportunity to "loop" with my fourth graders. It was a wonderful experience!
I completed my Masters of Secondary Education and ELL endorsement through UNL. I am a lifelong learner and greatly enjoy the learning process. It is my hope to instill that love of learning in my students each year. I am an avid reader and hope that this rubs off on every student that comes through my classroom door. Reading is paramount to all other areas of learning. I look forward, every year, to the tremendous discussions I know I'll get to have with students about literature.
My husband and I along with our three sons and three dogs(I'm a huge dog lover!) live in Waverly. Currently we have just one son, our youngest, attending school in the district. Reagan is 16 and a sophomore at Waverly High School. Our middle son, Reid, is 18 years old and is attending Air Force Basic Training and technical training this school this year. He will return to Nebraska for college at UNL and be an airman in the Nebraska Air National Guard. Our oldest son, Ryan, is 21 years old and currently completing his technical training for the Nebraska Air National Guard as well and will be attending UNO in the Fall to finish his last two years of college in UNO's Aviation program.
I always get excited for each new school year and being able to dive into learning with my students. Please trust that I will always have your child's best interest at heart when making educational decisions that affect them. I believe communication between home and school is paramount to a successful school year. My door is always open and I welcome emails and/or phone calls.
